When Black Hills Community Bank decided to open a location in Spearfish in 2014, president and CEO Jack Lynass set out to completely renovate the former Two Wheeler Dealer and Performance Physical Therapy building. Lynass’ heart was set on making the new 4,000-square-foot location aesthetically-appealing not only for clients, but for the community of Spearfish as a whole.
It’s safe to say that Lynass’ vision came to fruition. Black Hills Community Bank in Spearfish—located at 215 East Jackson Boulevard—is enhanced with rock accents, prominent roof lines, and a clock tower that greets customers as they come to bank, or as they simply drive by. The clock tower is similar to the one adorning the Rapid City branch, which opened in 2007. The grounds are lush with green grass, bushes and flowers. The building is set against the backdrop of Ponderosa pines, with the Black Hills gleaming majestically in the near distance.
“The building is constructed with many natural materials and looks perfectly at home here in the Black Hills,” said Lynass. “We are proud of our building and believe it’s something the community can also be proud of.”
The Spearfish Black Hills Community Bank has caught the eye of many residents and business owners. So much so, that this year the Spearfish bank won the Spearfish Chamber of Commerce’s Business Beautification Award. This award is given to recognize a Chamber member business or organization for their overall beautification efforts, enhancing the community visually, and making it inviting for current and potential residents. Lynass accepted the award at the 97th annual Chamber Banquet and Awards ceremony in February.
But for Lynass, what’s on the inside of the bank counts the most. This includes the bank’s knowledgeable staff; range of innovative residential and commercial banking products; and dedication to customer satisfaction and community service.
Through Black Hills Community Bank’s Pass It On program, employees are encouraged to contribute countless hours of volunteer work to their favorite causes and charities. Each year, Black Hills Community Bank awards $1,000 to each employee to donate to the nonprofit, organization or event of their choice.
“Employees are encouraged to also serve on boards and committees of the organizations they donate to,” Lynass said. “That way, they are deeply involved in understanding the ins and outs of the organizations they serve.”
Since Pass It On originated in 2010, $114,000 has been donated back to local organizations and charities. Over 182 organizations have benefited from Black Hills Community Bank’s employees offering their time and assistance within the Rapid City and Spearfish communities.
“Whether we make a loan to purchase your home or grow your business, it is also important to us to support community members by providing diapers for infants, feeding less fortunate children or sheltering those who are at risk,” said Lynass. “There is truly no better feeling than giving back. We are always committed to helping the greater community as much as we can. This is a bank with a very compassionate heart.”
